Community Service Workers

Last Saturday, for the second time, a group of eight people doing Community Service came along to Mickleover to do more work in cutting back the excess vegetation.
This work is of great benefit to us and the local environment, and they have already cleared a good length of the path westwards of the Curved Seat.
The Probation Service are keen for them to do more of this work as it ticks all the boxes for them.
It is environmental work.
It is out in the open air.
It is visible to the general public, and Saturday is a popular day for cyclists and walkers to be out and about on Route 54.
They seem to appreciate the fact that the "beneficiaries" (that is us) are on site. Although we do not get too involved.
There is no shortage of work for them.
And they seem to enjoy doing it, although I'm not sure that this is a requirement under the circumstances.
So we have made arrangements that they will come on a regular basis for the next few Saturdays, arriving at about 9.45am and working until 3.30pm.
Our input is only to unlock the gate at Mickleover Station to let them in and out, and to check that they are doing what we need doing.
Alan Locke and I will therefore do this, but any other Rangers are welcome to come along.
Several members of the public (non-offenders) have volunteered to come along to help with the work, and they may need some guidance.

That is good news and an excellent job they are doing too. I can be available to help or be on 'key duty' on 14th and 21st November if that is helpful
