Last Friday and Saturday were both Workdays and some useful work was done.
At the Veteran Tree on Friday, half a dozen nest boxes of various designs were fastened to the surrounding trees as were some bird feeders.
We had a small bonfire to get rid of a pile of cuttings from previous pruning sessions, and found a small self-set Christmas Tree surviving in the undergrowth. We cleared around it in anticipation of it being decorated by the public in December.
They will, you know!
On Saturday, another bonfire at Mickleover Station to get rid of more cuttings and the burial of a length of 4" dia, plastic pipe to carry surface water beneath the ramp to Spinneybrook Way where surface water froze into a dangerous sheet of ice during the winter cold spell.
A check today shows that the surface water has not been completely eliminated and it will be necessary to obtain and bury another section of pipe, as there is still water running onto the path, but not much chance of it freezing (we hope).
Has anyone got a 6ft length of 4" diameter plastic pipe?
Construction of the seat for the Friends of Mickleover Meadows is now complete and we are proposing to install it on Saturday 11th between Murray Park School and Onslow Road. Any help would be appreciated, as we have to concrete the base to avoid mowing problems, this being at the request of Derby City Parks Department.
Concrete Mixers and Excavators (both human) and Civil Engineers required please. Start work 9am or thereabouts.
To deter people from sitting on the seat whilst the concrete sets we shall give it another coat of wood stain and put "Wet Paint" notices up.

I have some lengths of 4" plastic piping buried at the top of our garden. Not sure about the length though until I have done some excavation! I also used to have a connector for same diameter pipe if I can find it! Only just noticed the item so it will be tomorrow morning 7th April before I test my memory (exact location of the pipe) and my digging skill to unearth it. Only black in colour so don't be choosy.
