Had a fantastic three days at Conkers in glorious weather. Our grand-daughters, ages 7 and 10, cycled from Etwall to the YHA at Moira last Monday via Willington, Repton, Hartshorne and Blackfordby and onto the National Forest. Weather was perfect. Stopped for lunch at The Bulls Head in Hartshorne where they serve excellent lunches for £5 95 a head. Plenty of choice and plenty of it too. The following exhausting day we spent at Conkers and cycled the half mile from the YHA to the entrance in time for the opening at 10.00 am where we stayed for the day. The activities at Conkers have increased dramatically since we were there approx. 6 years ago. Above the girls are on the 'barefoot walk' - one of the many experiences they encountered without shoes. They also managed the assault course, supposedly for teenagers and adults, although frightening to watch. Excellent value for £13 95 for all three of us including the DET vouchers, although all activities are free, food and drink is expensive on site.
Meals were better value at The Navigation Pub at Overseal. In fact, it would have been cheaper to stay B and B at The Navigation than stay at the YHA. Cycled home on Wednesday retracing our route and once more stopping for lunch at The Bulls Head.

That water looks cold judging by the children's expressions!

Well done the girls!
That is some ride for a seven year old, even a ten year old.
They loved it. They had chance to abort from Hartshorne as John R met up with us for lunch, but they chose to continue.
What an adventure for you and the girls. what did you think of the YH?
Glad that Conkers delivered on the entertainment front. Perhaps they will join us and lead the way on our 'Fresh Air Ride'on the Conkers Circuit at the end of June. Watch this space for details
National Forest YHA is very modern and facilities are good. We had a private room for 4 people and ensuite facilities. The girls were impressed with the Wii in the games room.
