Action Earth
For five years we have received a grant of £50 to finance seats on the Greenways, which we have built and installed mostly on the Mickleover Greenway, but for the last two years on R672 at Breadsall.
Morrison's Supermarket have sponsored the scheme of grants in recent years, but they have decided to end the sponsorship.
We will not therefore be able to obtain a grant for 2011, but we are hopeful that South Derbyshire County Council will be able to fund our seat planned for the new Hilton Greenway.
Failing that, we can finance it out of our own funds, which will be boosted by the profits from our BBQ Rides in June.

It had nothing to do with me Les, but I am internally trying to find out why they stopped funding and sourcing new grants.
Has anyone any ideas how the cast iron seat ends that Clyde(I believe) obtained some long time ago can be utilised? I have one pair and there were several I think. They could be used where the likelyhood of vandalism is not severe. Securely fixed of course.

Yes, I have a set of these as well, and you are right, they would not last long in a public area.
Firstly, because they could only be fastened to the ground by anchor bolts into concrete, and secondly because the holes for the horizontal woodwork are too small for substantial timber.
They would be fine in someone's garden, but not where idiots can get at them.
Perhaps a suitable place would be at the station of a heritage railway where they would be safe (perhaps)and would not look out of place.
stick them on ebay, use profits for a seat?
I second that, but with a few bolts and planks could be sold as a real seat. They will be very popular, very period.
About 20 of these cast iron seat ends - genuine GWR items - were recently stolen from the Heritage railway station at Cheltenham Racecourse. The local scrap dealer was clearly not impressed with whatever story he was told about the origin of these items and so promptly shopped the crims. They were returned to the railway. Selling either the ends or completed seats would therefore be a good idea (with the proceeds going to the Ranger Christmas Do?)
