Cycle Path News

Temporary Closure

                                            Sinfin Moor Lane

Please note that a section of NCN 66, the Derby Orbital Route will be closed from 28th May to 21st July for water main renewal.  The section affected is Sinfin Moor Lane from Redwood Road in Sinfin to Montague Way in Chellaston, so effectively the whole length of Sinfin Moor Lane.  Although the official documentation states that there is no alternative route, that is not true, as from Sinfin Lane a good option is Wilmore Road (from Goodsmoor Road use Shakespear Street opposite the County Hotel), then Infinity Park Way, from where you can join NCN 6 coming from Shelton Lock, passing over the narrow bridge to Swarkestone.

The Narrow Bridge (they don't come much narrower than this).

Developments/Improvements
Littleover
A new section of NCN 66 is now open through Littleover's Millenium Park between Moorway Lane and Oaklands Avenue. This replaces the busy Blagreaves Lane section and links nicely with the section at the Stenson Road Railway Bridge which leads to Sinfin.  It also links with the section via Heatherton which leads to Mickleover.
Curzon Street
Not only has the road been re-surfaced, but a new cycle lane heading towards Cheapside has been added.  It is bounded by a solid white line, so vehicle parking is not allowed.
New Uttoxeter Road
Work is in hand to improve the cycle lane alongside Bemrose School heading towards the Manor Road junction and this appears to be widening of the pavement which will no doubt become a shared path.
Good thing this as the on road cycle lane had an appalling surface and was in the 40 mph speed limit.
Darley Park
Work is to start in June on the long awaited multi-user path on the West side of the River Derwent in Darley Park.  Not only is this highly desirable for it's own sake, but it will form the first part of the Derwent Valley Cycleway, eventually running all the way to Matlock to join the White Peak Loop, which is already in place and will itself eventually join with the South end of the Monsal Trail and so on to Buxton. What a ride that will be!
