We met Ian at Derby Train Station where he had travelled from Nottingham. En route to Breadsall we had a look at the London Road railway bridge (currently bring re-built) and on into Pride Park for a look at the Velodrome, now forecast to open in January 2015.
On then via the Pentagon Island to meet Mavis Ratcliffe at the Paddock PH where she had been waiting for 30 minutes or so. Not one to waste time she had resisted the temptation of a gin and tonic at the pub and had been more productively employed picking up litter on the Greenway.
The purpose of the ride was to show Ian the Breadsall Greenway and in particular the new extension , now almost complete apart from some fencing which was in hand.
The path is a generous 3m wide and the final Toptreck surface is complete, the usual good job by Pugh-Lewis Ltd. who have been the main contractors to Derbyshire County Council on most of our local greenways.
Having reached the end of the path at Lime Lane a time check showed that we were just right for some refreshment at the nearby Kings Corner PH where they have a good selection of food and drink.
Once the decision had been made, we were soon speeding along Lime Lane towards the pub.

The weather was so nice that we were able to enjoy our meals in the pub's garden.

After a leisurely lunch we returned to the top of Brookside Road where Mavis left us to cycle off to her daughter's house at Wirksworth, and the rest of us rode back into Derby.

We are hoping to arrange another ride with Ian to take him along R54 (coffee at Don Amott's ?), and along R549 at least as far as Hatton to see the diversion of the path around the large extension to the Nestle Coffee Factory. Even perhaps lunch stop at Sudbury Prison or The Vernon Arms in Sudbury. Date to be arranged to suit Ian as he is the only one who actually works for a living.

A wonderful day out and a lovely path, well worth further visits and then slowly climbed my way up Dalley Lane to arrive at Ashleyhay at 3.15 p.m.in time for a welcome cup of tea! Well organised Les.
