Derby Velodrome

Here it is then - the proposed Velodrome, officially called the Multi Sports Arena, which now seems pretty certain to be built on land owned by the Council, adjacent to Pride Park Stadium.
Inside the building is a 250m cycle track at first floor level so that vehicles and equipment can be moved beneath the track into the central area. The infield is big enough to contain 12 badminton courts, exhibitions, conferences or pop concerts. Fixed seating for 5,000 spectators and the stress is on flexibility for a variety of sports and activities.
Outside is a closed road circuit which encircles the existing nature reserve.
The site is ideally situated close to the railway and bus stations, the city centre, and of course, (most important) Route 6 of the National Cycle Network. Hurrah!
A formal planning application is being submitted and a decision on that is expected in April.
To see details of the application, go to Derby City Council Planning Dept. web site and enter application number 12/11/01496.
