New Cycling Centre
A new cycling centre called Hicks Lodge is under construction in the National Forest, being situated between Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Moira, not far from Conkers and the Ashby Wolds Trail (NCN Route 63).
The above map shows what a comprehensive facility it will be with off-road cycling to suit all tastes and capabilities. There will be miles of cycles trails through the woodland.
On the map, Moira village is in the top left corner and Ashby is to the top right just off the map.
The forecast opening date was Spring 2011, but from my visit this week I guess that it will be somewhat later.
Neverthless, well worth waiting for and we hope to be paying a visit there sometime during the forthcoming Summer. We have been offered a guided tour and will no doubt follow this up as and when the facility is completed. All Sustrans Rangers welcome to come along. Keep an eye on this Blog for further details.
A photograph here of the Visitor Centre Building under construction. It will include a cafe and a cycle hire centre.
Sorry for the poor quality of the picture, taken in inclement weather on my mobile phone.

Love it, but it makes me tired just to look at the map!
I am checking it out regularly myself and I will keep you all posted when the opening is imminent. The offroad routes are difficult to access at the moment because of construction traffic. I am exploring offroad options for links with NCN R63 but to date we will have to use a short on-road option between Donisthorpe and Wilsley or perhaps Ashby Road in Moira. I will keep searching
