More on A38 Cycling Accident Victim

HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to an inspirational record-breaking cyclist who was known by thousands of people all over the country.

Patrick Kenny, 72, was killed on Friday on his way home along the southbound carriageway of the A38 at Claymills after his bicycle was involved in a collision with a dark blue BMW.
His best friend of 53 years, John Taylor, who he met when they joined the Birmingham St Christopher Catholic Cycling Club together as teenagers, today described Pat as one of the country’s top road record-breakers in cycling.
Pat was a member of The Road Record Association, Audax UK, the Midlands Record Association, the Tricycle Association, the 24-hour Fellowship, as well as the 300,000 Mile Club.
Mr Taylor said the highlight of Pat’s career and life was in 1980 when he broke the Land’s End to John O’Groats record in a time of two days, 10 hours and 36 minutes.
He also held 39 other cycling records throughout his 28-year cycling career, and he had completed 910,000 miles which he was hoping to make one million until he died.
He travelled everywhere on his bike, he loved it. He helped many other riders reach their goals at record-breaking level.”
Pat was born in India in 1939 and lived in the country for a short time while his father served in the Army.
He then spent the next 30 years of his life in Birmingham where he became an avid life-long Blues supporter.
