Those were the Days (21)

In November 2000, after a prolonged period of heavy rain, there was serious  flooding in Derby, the River Derwent being 10 or 12 feet above normal level.

These pictures show the situation on NCN Route 6 at Five Arches Bridge where the railway line heading North out of Derby Station is carried over the River Derwent, and the Riverside Path heading towards Elvaston and Nottingham runs beneath the railway.

The centre photograph shows the normal situation.

Below - the scene on Darley Fields where NCN Route 54 lies beneath the flood waters.
The River Derwent would normally be almost out of shot to the left of the picture.
