Those were the days 3

These three photographs show the experimental track which was placed just after the Etwall turn off on the R54, known at the time as the R54 extension. The first shows me riding along the experimental track, the second the machinery which was used to create the cycleway. (Picture from the bridge which carries the Etwall turn off). To the contractors credit they laid this stretch at a fast rate of knots. We thought the very thick concrete of the experimental track would hold them up. But no, it all came up within one day!

The third picture is for those who just love a litter pick, taken just after the new track was laid; this picture shows Alan Partridge collecting waste cable insulation which had been dumped. Les had to bribe and threaten the local tip before they would take it. I think his threat was to dump it back but on the ring road! He had to change his trailer as it would have been recognised if he went to the tip again.
