Skyride- Leicester

I refer members to the West Leicestershire blog http://rangerswestleics.blogspot.com/2010/08/skyride-2010.html

This mass event is a great introduction to the possibility of cycling in cities for young and old alike with an easy, traffic free ride right in the heat of the city there were literally thousands of cyclist on the roads of Leicester with around 50% of riders under the age of 16. Fantastic on a day of mixed fortunes with the weather. The Leicester groups had a stand in the town hall square and there was a lot of interest in Sustrans and cycle routes in and around the city. Shame the council cycle map was out of print (not a problem we would have in Derby).

Next year, if sky run these events again, Derby(city and rangers) should very definitely get involved as I don't know of a more popular event to promote Sustrans and its objectives. We could really reach out and sign up many new members and volunteers. Bristol needs to get involved with 'Skyrides' at an early stage and organize Ranger groups to hit these events with eye catching stalls and well rehearsed Rangers to 'spread the word' on the movement.
