A New Bird Table

Our bird table on R54 at Mickleover has been in place for about a year now, and has proved very popular, not only with the birds (and the grey squirrels), but also the general public who have kept it supplied with wild bird food.
With timber left over from other projects, we have therefore made and installed a similar facility on R672 at Breadsall, close by the Station Road entrance to the Greenway, and opposite the nearby seat.
Since we have suffered from some vandalism on the Breadsall Greenway the new table had to be designed to counter that rather more than it's suitabililty for the birds.
Hence the upright post is a length of telegraph pole which is secured into the ground by two steel bars, and the nails are all 6" long.
The photograph shows the installation team hard at work (well, some of them), early on Monday morning, digging a large hole in the ground. Left to right: John Swan (digging), Ian Dent and Martin Aldred (advising), and Phil Harris (supervising).
Phil Harries also came along, but was not early enough to appear in the picture.
On completion of the bird table job, and a short break, we spent some time removing ragwort and Himalayan balsam from alongside the path, before going for lunch at the nearby Morrison's Cafe.
The upper picture shows the finished article.
