Saturday 21st August sees the return of the Probation Service Community Payback Team to help us in cutting back the ever-growing tide of vegetation on R54 at Etwall.
No glow worms here, but there may still be birds nesting, so the work will be at low level close to the path edge. The presence of glow worms at this time of the year prohibits such work elsewhere on R54.
The team arrive at Old Station Close at 10am and Rangers welcome to come along. All the hard work will be done by the "volunteers", but we may need to do a bit of tidying up. Pack up time about 3pm.
On the following day, Sunday 22nd August, we have a Rangers Ride to Darley Moor to see the fastest bikes on the planet, when the HPVC (Human Powered Vehicle Club) are there for a race meeting. A great opportunity to see recumbents of various types racing against more conventional bikes. You will not see bikes travelling this fast anywhere else.
We meet at Mickleover Station (9.30am) to ride along R68 in the direction of Ashbourne. Entry is free, but minimal facilities there so bring a packed lunch.
