With many of our Rangers making the best of the recent spell of fine weather and taking holidays, we have been coping with a skelton staff on the following events.
Big Cycle Day Out (4th July)
A good crowd attended this annual cycling event organised by Cycle Derby on Markeaton Park. A nice sunny day, but the strong wind played havoc with our gazebo and the leaflets inside it (originally), when the plastic window blew out. It also blew my fish and chip lunch onto the grass, but at least I had eaten half of it. Our micro bike challenge was very popular as usual, and we managed to field a team of three for the cycle polo event, where they won both their matches. Well done Ian, Adam and Shawn. Up the Rangers!
The Five Parks Ride held concurrently with the Big Cycle Day Out was well attended in spite of being a sponsored ride in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, many people signing on at the start. Several of our Rangers acted as marshals.
Derby Cycling Group's 30th Birthday Bash at the old Smith's Clock Works in Queen Street on 10th July saw us leading two rides, one taking a look at the new cycle facilites associated with the Connecting Derby constuction of Lara Croft Way and Mercian Way. The later ride took riders across the city to ride along the Breadsall Greenway which many had not seen previously.
On the following day, Sunday 11th July we were out again in association with the Friends of Sinfin Moor Park, leading the public ride along NCN R6 to the Trent Viaduct. Once again in perfect cycling weather. The day ended with a BBQ put on by the Friends, in the Nature Reserve.
Martin Aldred's video shows the riders approaching Swarkestone Lock on the Trent and Mersey Canal.
