Meeting at the Midland Railway Centre 19 Feb 2009

This August Bank Holiday, 29 - 31 Aug 2009, the newly-formed Erewash Valley Rangers Group, together with the Derby Rangers, will be staffing a Sustrans stall at the Midland Railway Centre’s August Bank Holiday event. The overall theme of the event is transport, in all its guises, and our contribution will be ‘Railways into Greenways’, demonstrating how several of our local (and other) greenways and multi-user paths have been constructed from old railway track-beds. We expect to use a Powerpoint presentation, posters, photos, etc. Thus, Les and I went yesterday to the heritage railway at Butterley, near Ripley, to meet Stuart Smith of the MRC and discuss tentative details. We had a very constructive chat – on a steam hauled train from Butterley to Hammersmith to Ironville to Butterley. A wonderful experience! We will be returning there soon to look at the facilities which Stuart is offering us, and Les will be leading a ride from Derby (see details later).
