Security Problem

Over the weekend the chain securing the lock on the gate to R672 at Station Road Breadsall was cut through and the two pieces of chain held together with a small piece of wood. The lock was left in place and nothing was stolen, but this would have allowed easy access for a motor vehicle at some future time.
The purpose of this is unknown, but it may be to enable thieves, fly-tippers or itinerents to gain access.
Perhaps all three in one. That would cause endless trouble for us, the Council, and local residents.
We have fitted a new and thicker piece of chain today and re-locked the gate.
Also we have several more lengths of the thicker chain to hand in case there is a recurrence.
Please check all gates on all our paths when you are passing and report any abnormalities.

There is also some flytipping (waste furniture) by the dismantled horse gate on Windmill Bridleway so this may be related to these careful dismantlings. This isn't random, senseless vandalism but some plan by someone. Maybe to allow Quad bike access?

Les is aware of this fly tipping. I did not examine it too closely, it being in a location where my agility would find it difficult to access and return safely ('elf and safety' rules). In Les's opinion, it is a bird cage setup, and I agree with him.(We encountered each other at the Station Site on Sunday morning) Photos on my Breadsall Greenway blog. The 'Lamp Shed' sign was also missing on Sunday! DCC I think, have put some large nails in the horse steps at the Windmill bridleway, which should make it more difficult to remove the steps, hopefully.

DCC are proposing to put metal cross pieces replacing the missing wooden parts and secure then with anti-vandal nuts. These are nuts which you can tighten but not loosen.
