Red Arrow buses to Nottingham
I use the Red Arrow buses to Nottingham daily along with a folder (which I put into the luggage hold) and have no problems - generally it is a great service.
I've been investigating whether it is possible to use a full size bike and think I've reached some kind of conclusion after discussion with various Trent Barton drivers and managers. The bottom line is that carriage of a full size bike is down to "driver's discretion". I know of someone who has successfully put a full size bike into the luggage hold a few times (but she is more charming to the drivers than I am!).
The bike is likely to move around in the hold and may get damaged and I think this is a concern of Trent Barton (they may be sued for damage). Probably a good idea to use a bungee or similar to hold the bike in place. Occasionally the coaches are replaced by "normal" buses without luggage holds and you may (if the bus is busy) not be able to have your bike in the buggy area.
There is the opportunity for a ride to Nottingham with return on the Red Arrow so long as riders are prepared for having to miss a particular bus (grumpy driver, not a coach, ...) and wait for the next one. I plan to try this after the clocks change and will report on success (or otherwise).
