NCN R54 Burton Path

Finding myself in Egginton this morning with a couple of hours to spare, I rode on to Burton to check progress with the new path under construction from the Stretton A38 flyover and the good news is that the path is almost complete.
First picture shows how little remains to be done, and I guess that we will be riding on it (officially) within a couple of weeks at most. The tarmac surface is superb.  A shame to ride bikes on it really.

This is the southern end - junction with Hillfield Lane.
Right side over fence is road to the RSPCA Building.
Right of that is the A38 trunk road.

Second picture shows the steps at the northern end. Not such good news here as there is poor provision for cycles. A narrow gulley has been incorporated in the steps, but most riders will either carry their bikes up/down the steps, or use the grass bank alongside.  Riding the steep slope not recommended due to close proximity of the canal, and the steel post which will no doubt carry a "Cyclists Dismount" sign, is an additional hazard.

A38 slip road at top of picture with Trent & Mersey Canal to the right under bridge.
Finding myself now in Burton with a couple of hours to spare, and feeling hungry, I rode on to Mac's cafe for lunch.
Ownership had changed but still very good value. How's about this then Shawn?

Chips, two eggs, and two sausages £3.  Large mug of tea 75p.
And a newspaper to read, although it was only the Daily Mirror, so that didn't take long.
Opening hours won't suit everyone, as they open at 6am (!) and close at 2pm weekdays and 1pm at weekends.

Thanks for the update Les the pictures look positively mouth watering! Ed Healy is going to email me with an update on official opening date, permanent signing provision etc. I will check myself in a week or so's time. Official ride from Derby to Mac's is beckoning!

And that's on top of the fruit cake and two cups of coffee we had at Phils!

Yes, well I'm a growing lad.
Unfortunately, horizontally rather than vertically.

Nice to see your understanding of a fatty diet and health!!

This isn't my normal diet. Some days I have an organic lettuce leaf and a couple of hard boiled garden peas for lunch.
