The Dreaded Mackworth Barrier
At last after 10 years of various people, including Derby Cycling Group and us, complaining about it, the Mackworth Barrier has gone. Originally put in to deter illegal motorcycling, it was the product of a demented mind, and succeeded in preventing the passage of tandems, trailers, trikes, wheelchairs and buggies.
The cost of removing it was met by the Mickleover and Mackworth Forums.

I wonder just how much it cost?
The one thing where I felt let down when speaking to the council was this barrier. Removal was promised year after year. I reported to the public year after year that it was going, and consequently looked a fraud full of sound without meaning.
In the end I resolved to stay away from the meetings and get my cred back.
Now that is welcome progress.
