CONTRA-FLOW CYCLE LANE LOUDON STREET, NORMANTON ROAD – RAILWAY STATION.
The
proposal is to exempt cyclists from the one-way order on Loudon Street between
its junctions with Normanton Road and Depot Street via a contra-flow cycle lane.
In addition, to exempt cyclists from the one-way order on Loudon Street between
its junctions with Madeley Street and Depot Street.
The
proposals support the recently implemented scheme between Normanton Road and the
Railway Station, which has been identified as a route for improvement for
cyclists, the scheme aims to improve the safety of cyclists, make cycling more
attractive to a wider range of cyclists and to improve access to the City centre
and the Railway Station by bike, aiming to reduce the number of casualties
identified in a
resent cycle audit carried out by Cycle England
By
means of allowing cyclists to enter, Loudon Street from both Normanton Road and
Arboretum Park will provide a more direct route for cyclists. The route will
also be supported by signing to highlight the presence of cyclists along with
cycle logos.
Although a short stretch of road, this move is significant in allowing cyclists to ride against the traffic flow on a one-way street, and hopefully will set a precedent for similar schemes elsewhere in the City.
We have a few such features, but there are several more possibilities, and of course many cyclists (not me your honour) already ride illegally against the traffic flow in some one-way streets.

Good to hear such a move is starting throughout the uk, which has recent come about after the dft have councils the go ahead following a years trial in London.

Sorry to be pedantic but there is technically no such thing as a "train" station. They are called railway stations and have been for over a hundred years!
Sorry about that, Phil, I should have known better with so many railway buffs in the Ranger Group.
However, English has always been a dynamic language, and with further infrastructure developments locally, such as the redesign of the area around the Derby Railway Station it may yet become the New Utility Train Station (NUTS) or even (heaven forbid), The Derby Surface Transport Pedestrian and Cyclist Interchange Facility Restaurant and Fashion Boutique.
