Retirement of Jane Chapman from Sustrans

Hi,

Some of you may be aware that Jane is retiring. On our behalf I asked if she was having a leaving "do" - she is but it is tomorrow (Wednesday) and I cannot get there due to our weekly commitment to Grandchildren. She has however advised that she will be in the Derby area on Saturday 9th March see her daughter and Grandchildren and wondered if we could arrange a ride. Any thoughts?

By an amazing coincidence, the date of Saturday 9th March is that of the Derby Rangers Social Ride to Elvaston Castle, so perhaps we could invite Jane and family to come along.
I'm not sure what the current state is regarding the cafe at Elvaston.
Anyway the ride starts at 10am from The Council House.
Perhaps we could persuade Mavis to make one of her famous cakes and take it along.

Whoops!
Forget the cake as Derby County are playing Sheffield Wednesday at home on March 9th so Mavis will be at Pride Park. No-one else makes cakes.

Yes could have been a lovely thought but as Les says, there is a home
match on Saturday 9th March. No chance of meeting up in a pub Friday evening or even Sunday sometime?

I don't know whether James Thatcher reads this Blog but the ride on 9 March is to Swarkestone Nursery, as shown on the (competing) Facebook page.

More importantly, I found yesterday that Route 6 is blocked where the path crosses the rickety bridge by the Infinity Park Way crossing. And no warning at Swarkestone Lock that cyclists are about to set out on over a mile of deadend!

If the bridge is still closed on 9 March there is no other safe on road option, so we would have to hope the path along Lowes Lane from the Sinfin Moor Lane crossing on Infinity Park Way is not too muddy .

Is it known why the path is closed? This seems to be yet another example of cycling viewed as a leisure activity, rather than a means of transport.

There is a lot of yellow paint on one the newer wooden boards. Presumably it will stay closed until the Council find a carpenter.

The repair is promised for Monday 4 March, apparently.
