Derby Velodrome

Since completion of the exterior work on the building there has been little new to see outside whilst the interior work has been proceeding.
However, in recent weeks the surrounding area has been tidied up and we can now see what it really looks like.  The adjacent car parks and paths are finished, with seats and even bike parking racks in position alongside the entrance.

The main entrance on the front elevation of the building.

Some interesting architectural details on the building which has very few straight lines.
I had wondered why the ridged concrete feature is where it is, and now realise that it is to discourage stupid people from walking beneath the low underside of the building where they might bump their heads. Being stupid however, they may now trip over the ridges and suffer some alternative self inflicted injury.
A reminder of a quotation from Albert Einstien is as follows.  "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former".

Good planning of the car park with reserved parking for disabled drivers right next to the entrance.
Note reflection of Derby County's iPRO Stadium in the glass doors of the Velodrome.

The date for the opening remains at 2nd January 2015, and that should be quite an occasion.
See you there.

I cant decide if Velodrome looks sad or sceptical in the first picture, but he definately has eyes, and a mouth
