The path is currently 2.5km long and the extension from the top end of Brookside Road to Lime Lane at Morley, will add a further 1.8km to the path which will eventually connect Derby to Ilkeston, and be a direct link to the Nutbrook Trail which runs between Long Eaton and Shipley Park.
A couple of reminders here of the work being carried out when Phase 1 of the Greenway was being carried out in February 2008.
Hopefully the extension will not require so much earthmoving nor the removal of so many trees.
Although the Breadsall Greenway actually starts at the Paddock PH on Mansfield Road, some distance from Derby City Centre, there is an excellent cycle friendly linking route from Exeter Bridge, crossing the A52 trunk road at the Pentagon Island, running off road alongside to Sir Frank Whittle Way and through Racecourse Park.

According to my information, the main depot for machinery storage etc. will be at the Lime Lane access. This section should be fairly straightforward, with few complications, unlike the previous section. Also, there should be less vandalism activity. Looking forward to our walking group The Derwent Trekkers, checking it out in the New Year.
This is welcome news indeed. Difficult to believe that nearly 6 years have passed since the first phase was started!
