BBQ Ride

Not the best of weather for our second attempt this year to promote this public ride, but a quite reasonable turnout of 44 made the effort worthwhile, since we made a profit of £170 from the sale of food, drinks and some cycling accessories, including several complete bikes which had been donated to us.
The cool breeze and cloudy sky no doubt boosted the sales of hot food and drink, but may have deterred some potential customers. Rain was forecast later in the afternoon, but fortunately we saw no sign of it before everyone left for home. Several of our guests took advantage of a free swim in the adjacent swimming pool and others were given tickets for a free swim at some other time. Most were family groups of cyclists and the four mile ride from the starting point was a nice distance for those with young children.
Thanks to all our Rangers and helpers who put in such valient efforts to make the day a success, putting up gazebos, cooking food, making drinks and marshalling the ride, plus a myriad of minor but necessary tasks.
Our bank balance now looks much healthier, and at our forthcoming Ranger's meeting we will need to decide what to do with this new found wealth. One thing is certain, and that is that we will not need to claim any funds from Sustrans for the foreseeable future.

Apart from the Old station Close gate, some kind person had locked all the others. Thank you.

Just a very big thank you to all the very willing helpers at Etwall without which this event would not have gone so smoothly and successfully.
