All folding bike owners are invited to this month's Folding Society ride which happens to be in Derbyshire, with easy access by bus, train or motor-car. The Transpeak bus will carry folders, (but may be busy with hikers and bus pass holders) as will the train to Cromford Station. There is a large car park at the start which will cost £3 for the day.
The ride is on Saturday 12th May starting from the cafe at the Cromford Mill end of the Cromford Canal at 11am.
The distance of the ride is 20 miles (18 on-minor roads) and somewhat hilly since, after a flat 2 mile ride along the towpath of the beautiful but shallow and boat-less Cromford Canal,with Nature Reserve alongside, we climb up towards Tansley and Crich after passing Lea Bridge Pumping Station which contains a steam engine installed to feed water from the River Derwent, (below the crossing aquaduct) into the canal. The hills should not be seen as a deterrent, since the stupendous views of our lovely Derbyshire countryside are more than adequate recompense, and of course for every uphill there is a corresponding freewheel downhill.
The Origami rides are renowned for the excellent lunch stops and this will be no exception at the Cliff Inn which is next door to the Tramway Museum in Crich where there happens to be a Classic Motorcycle Show on the day. It may be a case of lunch or motorcycles, so much as I like the latter, lunch and a pint of Marston's will take priority.

Hills and Birdys dont go well together (unless you have one fitted with a Rohloff hub that is) so I am likely to be found that day in Gloucestershire laying railway lines.
Unfortunately it is preparing the clay for the Well Dressings in Etwall which take place the following weekend. A busy week ahead.
