Mickleover Greenway News

Today, the Derbyshire County Council Countryside Rangers came along with their tractor mower and trimmed the path verges between Etwall (A516 Bridge) and Mickleover, so that stretch, together with the large area behind Mickleover Station which has been transformed by Stefan's strimming, is all looking very neat and tidy. The stretch from Etwall to Egginton has not been done but was done earlier in the Summer.
As can be seen in the photograph we are now developing a nice one metre verge on each side of the path which is just short grass, devoid of weeds and tree saplings.  This makes it so much easier to mow in the future.

We expect to see the return of the Community Payback Team very soon and the first job that we want them to do is to remove all the turf which encroaches onto the tarmac at Mickleover.
When that is done they will be employed in cutting back the hedges between Bonehill Gate and Bannel's Gate. This area has never been cut back properly and the path is quite narrow there.

Construction of the new seat for the Hilton Greenway is well advanced and we expect to have it installed around the end of November. The formal handover of the path from St. Modwen Ltd. (who financed and constructed the path) to South Derbyshire District Council will not now take place until Spring 2012, but we have authority to install the seat and will have the loan of keys to the bollards which prevent vehicular access to the path.

We also have in stock a complete but rather fragile commercially made seat, but have not yet decided where this could go, and sufficient timber to buid yet another seat and/or picnic table, probably for installation on the Breadsall Greenway.
