NCN Route 54

North of Derby, Route 54 goes only as far as Little Eaton, where the poor surface of the off road path has been the subject of many complaints over the years.
Work is now in hand to resurface the path all the way from the Little Chef Cafe to Makeney Road and this is being done in good quality tarmac.
The A61 road through Little Eaton is well used by cyclists, but due to the poor condition of the path, most have been using the road instead of the path.
When the work is completed, we should see many more cyclists on the path as it is a much safer option than the road.
Beyond Little Eaton the A61 road is quite good for cycling all the way to Ripley, as it is reasonably flat and has good width cycle lanes in both directions.

Good use of the street furniture Les. Initially thought that you had been to some ancient castle.

I was on my way home from Chesterfield where I had been to ride the Five Pits Trail.
Highly recommended, although rather hilly, and the surface is poor in places, not ideal for the 16" wheels on my folding bike.
