Handyside Bridge tree removal information

23rd May 2011.
The following information was received this morning via FODOS from Andy Shervill, (Arboricultural Officer with Derby City Council). The plan mentioned is included with this item from me, but the description gives a pretty clear indication. JohnS

For your information and as part of the footpath improvements near Handyside Bridge it is necessary to remove trees on the triangular embankment between the refurbished steps at Handyside Bridge and the river footpath/cycle lane (see attached plan).

Trees in group ‘5’ will be tidied up to allow adequate clearance to pedestrians.

Two of the trees have been ring barked by persons unknown. The removal of the medium sized Ash would also reduce the risk of direct damage to the bridge structure.

Mitigation planting will be provided later in the year.

The trees are scheduled to be removed next week.

An initial inspection has identified that nesting birds are not present; if upon closer inspection nesting birds are found the works will be put on hold.
