A great suggestion from the Winter Rangers Meeting was that we contribute to the various local, free magazines with regular reports on Sustrans and what we (the local rangers) have been up to. Les has pulled together a list of the local magazines (see his ranger web site) and we now need rangers to volunteer to adopt their local publication.
Look through the various publications on Les' site, pick out which one you want to write for and then let me know so I can collate who is doing what.
Typically they are looking for 300-500 words occasionally (say every 2-3 months) and you'll be able to take advantage of what all the other rangers have written to make it easy. I'll work out a way of publishing the "who is writing for who" list and also past articles to crib from.

As an example, I submitted the following to the Breadsall Parish Magazine for publication in May's edition.
News from the Greenway by Ian Dent
This article is the first of an occasional series on activities, issues and news on the new Breadsall Greenway (along the line of the Great Northern Railway), a multi-user path that was opened last year.
There are five Sustrans Volunteer Rangers who have adopted the Breadsall Greenway; myself (Ian), Adam, Phil, Steve and John. We are the eyes and ears for Sustrans and we deal with minor problems and report major problems so they get dealt with rapidly. We're keen to meet people using the Greenway so please speak to us when you see us out and about (look for the fluorescent Sustrans vests). Contact us by emailing sustransranger@yahoo.co.uk.
Sustrans is the UK's leading sustainable transport charity and aims to reduce the environmental and resource impacts of transport, enable people to choose active travel more often, provide car-free access to essential local services, and turn streets and public spaces into places for people to enjoy. See www.sustrans.org.uk for more details.
The Greenway is already being well used, particularly by walkers. There has been some vandalism including the destruction of a seat installed by us (which has now been moved and repaired) and an ongoing problem with dog fouling. Erewash Council have quickly installed new litter bins and dog walkers now have no excuse. You can do your bit by challenging anyone not clearing up and by reminding people that the local dog warden visits periodically and is likely to issue fines.
On Sunday 6th June we will be leading a cycle ride from Derby to the Greenway and then for a BBQ at the old Breadsall station. We'd love to have people join us at the Market Place (11am) or Markeaton Park (10:30am) for the ride or else just walk up to the station and join in the BBQ. The ride is free, just pay for what you eat at the BBQ. Families are very welcome but all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
If you haven't walked or cycled along the Greenway yet then take advantage of the spring weather to try it out. I look forward to seeing you out and about.
Ian
