Cycle Forum meeting

Due to Les' sickliness, I attended the Cycle Forum meeting in the Quad on Thursday 18th Feb. Other rangers there were Adam and Martin. Some points arising were (my understanding and note taking weren't 100% so please take all the following as indicative and not definitive):

Work on a toucan crossing by the Paddock and a crossing near the Windmill PH will start in March.

Plans in place for new paths along Broadway and a link onto the Kedleston Road bus lane - due in next financial year.

Plan for cycle path from 5 Lamps to Broadway going North.

The path in Darley Fields (the existing R54 on east of river) will be resurfaced in March. Some confusion but it was thought cyclists would also be able to use the tarmac path.

The planned path to west of river (to Darley Abbey) has been objected to by Darley Abbey Conservation Group (who don't like the surface material) and Derby Heart. It is planned to make Darley Street 2 way for cyclists and to open up the riverside path to the end of South Avenue in March.

Newton's Walk will be opened to cyclists.

The Neighbourhood Boards have recently been very positive towards cycling and have contributed money to some projects.

Ruth Sadler to detail maintenance processes on Cycle Derby page to provide an easy guide to getting problems resolved.

Cycle England are visiting Derby next Tuesday and will be taken on ride from Derby to Breadsall and back through Chester Green in order to see the facilities in place.

John Grimshaw to visit Derby soon.

Velodrome is expected to be in place by 2012 (soon after Olympics).

Investigation into extending R54 northwards to Duffield still in hand. Ruth working on rights of way in Allestree Park.

Lynn explained future plans for the Cycle Forum. To be held monthly. Dates for year to be set soon. Membership to be extended to include police, tourism, and others. Lynn will chair future meetings.

Next meeting set for March 16th 4:30.

Lots of useful information in your report Ian. Last week, I noted a council man walking about near the Paddock with some plans, which he told me were connected with the Toucan crossing which is going to be installed. It will be very useful. A bit hairy at times trying to cross there. Have you any time schedule for the Cycle England visit? I will try to do a litter pick before then.
