This bridge was badly damaged in 2008 after being struck by a tractor and heavily loaded trailer. An item in the Waterscape newsletter told that repairs have begun on the bridge, which has listed status. See the article:
http://www.waterscape.com/features-and-articles/news/2626/british-waterways-to-rebuild-collapsed-historic-bridge
Repairs are scheduled to finish before April 1st and the canal is currently closed to allow for the installation of scaffolding. Once repairs are finished there may be an intention by Derbyshire County Council to improve the path which leads west from this bridge on the north side of the canal. There was a provisional date for this work to be done at about the time the bridge was damaged. This path goes under the main rail line to Birmingham and joins further paths which eventually take a walker or rider into Findern. The towpath in this area is of poor quality but rideable when dry and could, with improvement, be a link from NCN Route 6 at Swarkestone to NCN Route 54 east of Burton-on-Trent.

Nice Photo, I think I shall have to visit with my camera....
Intresting to see the proof that a brick arched bridge has all it's strength in the arch, and that the brick parapet adds extra load but not strength.
The parapet is there only to prevent idiots (some of them at least) from falling into the water.
