Breadsall Greenway Opening Ride

In spite of the forecast of wind and rain, our first event on the new Greenway went ahead as planned, with action on three fronts.
At Breadsall Station, preparations for food and drink went on sheltered by our new gazebo on it's first outing. Mavis, Jan, and Phil soon had steam issueing from the boiler and hot chicken soup was a welcome sight.
From Derby Market Place, Ian Dent, assisted by several other Rangers, led the group of cyclists in the direction of Breadsall, whilst John Swan led a group of walkers from the Paddock pub on Mansfield Road.
Both groups started at 11am, and the walkers arrived at Breadsall first, helped by the fact that their route was only half the distance.
In total we had 90 people present which was not bad considering the time of year and the weather.
In addition quite a few local people and lots of dogs turned up after hearing word of the event on Radio Derby.
The locals (and the dogs) said how impressed they were with the new path on their doorstep. One lady thought that we (the Rangers) had built it, and a gentleman rang, having read the ride leaflet mentioning hot soup, asking if it would be available at the station every day. "Sadly, no" says Mavis.
So, a very successful event, introducing lots of people to our latest Derbyshire NCN Route and the first of many such events, as further construction work takes the Greenway in the direction of Ilkeston.
