The Derby Ranger Group has been asked to take part in Bike Radar Live at Donington Park next year on 28th/29th/30th May.
At last year's year event we ran the off-site local rides very successfully and are asked to do the same in 2010 with somewhat increased presence i.e. some slightly longer rides.
Also we had already decided that we would have a much better Sustrans stall next time, hopefully with better support from Sustrans.
We will probably need more than 12 Rangers to attend but can invite Rangers from other East Midllands Groups to join us if necessary.
First choice to those who came last year, of course.
Please let me know if you wish to come along in 2010.
We will need to have some meetings as we did last year to discuss the project.
Further details to follow.

I suspect one of the problems Sustrans have with this type of event is that the majority of visitors do not see bicycles as a means of transport.
Perhaps we should offer rides to East Midlands Parkway - train to Derby - return to Donnington. Maybe we could get Brompton to lend a few bikes. Win - win for Brompton, the Railways and Sustrans.

I will be happy to be involved again but I think we need the physical support of staff from Bristol to run the stall so that we can concentrate on rides. Given that the short ride was by far the most popular I am surprised about the need for a longer ride (although providing one wont be a serious challenge). One other point - at the moment the last week in May has been pencilled in for the Ranger 2010 Tour de France. Last year's BR event was August. I hope the track is open - I'm training to beat last year's time for a circuit.
"the majority of visitors do not see bicycles as a means of transport" But these are the people who should be targeted by Sustrans.
No good targeting Les. Even though they do...

"the majority of visitors do not see bicycles as a means of transport" as Trexrider wrote. I will probably raise the ire of some, but NCN should be National Environmental Network. Many types of user are probably a little alienated by the emphasis on cycling. Many older users cannot use a cycle anymore. Getting that way myself!!!
