Breadsall Greenway

Today, after being away for three weeks, I expected to see some progress on the Greenway construction and that was in fact the case.
Photo A shows the new gates at the Windmill Bridleway Crossing, shown here looking Eastwards towards the A608 bridge, with the bridleway leading right (uphill) to the Windmill pub, this being the most important diversion for thirsty Rangers.
Photo B shows the restored platform at Breadsall station, where there is now an excellent meeting point and a good place for BBQs.
Photo C shows the very long restored platform at Racecourse Siding, where racehorses were once unloaded in the days when Derby actually had a race course. It must have been quite a busy place in it's day, and probably was a good place to grow roses.
It seems that the official opening of the Greenway will be sometime in late October.

We must have been in the area at about the same time Les. I took photos of almost the identical locations too! I will enter them on my site in a short time.

We (Joyce and I) also cycled the beautiful Breadsall Greenway last Friday, just in time for a very large tree to be felled across the track. However, two burley contractors carried our bikes up the bank to bypass the tree. We cycled back through Breadsall village in case they chose not to repeat the performance again!
