And Quiet Flows the Don

I went to Beeley Wood, near Oughtibridge, on the NW outskirts of Sheffield yesterday, to help with the clearing of small trees and foliage from a rather muddy and uneven path. This path will form a link between the Trans-Pennine Trail and Route 6. Starting next week, large plant is expected to move in, to remove larger trees, fill in holes and eventually add a new surface. When finished, this path will provide a pleasant ride in beautiful sylvan surroundings, by the side of the River Don. Should be good! Sustrans rangers and other volunteers came from far and wide (Loughborough was the furthest, I think) and work is expected to continue throughout this week. We took our orders from the gentleman in the hard hat. Pics 1 and 2 provide some sort of ‘before and after’ contrast.

Wish I was there, rather than at work!

That "gentleman in the hard hat" looks remarkably like our very own Liaison Ranger. Gets about, n'est-ce pas?
