Another Successful Cycling Event

Hot on the heels of our Biking Barbecue two weeks ago, we ran a new event today, taking a public ride to Smerrills Farm at Radbourne for a Tour of the Farm and, of course, another barbecue.
In spite of a poor outlook first thing with some mist and later drizzle, the weather improved by the time riders arrived at Mickleover Station. Another group arrived from Derby Market place led by Amanda Salt bringing the number up to 50.
Although the first part of the ride was on NCN R54 as far as Heage Lane Bridge, from there we had to ride on the country lane to the farm. Riders were well disciplined keeping in single file behind Ride Leader Peter Ford, and Rangers marshalled the two road junctions on the route.
All participents arrived at the farm in close proximity and were soon tucking into the tasty hot food which Mavis, Yvonne and Anne had prepared and the drinks which Phil and Sue had ready. It took a while to get them all fed and watered.
Anne took the whole group on a most interesting tour of the farm, explaining the workings of the dairy farm and showing the new herd of goats, as well as the swallows nesting in some of the buildings.
A most successful day out only marrred by one puncture and a young lad falling off his little bike on the cycle path on the way home. He was soon patched with plasters on his arm and leg and recovered sufficiently to lead us back to Mickleover Station.
