Three days of Heaven

Starting from Monday 16th we had a few days of heaven, we had the weather, the bikes, and the will, so Peter Roberts and myself set out for a three day tour of Cheshire starting at Teggs Nose and finishing at Parkgate, Nr. Neston. Peter on the bike and me in the car! Well I had a ‘bike in the boot’ which was to be well used for very short trips. Well, let’s say every time it got interesting I got the bike out – Peter cycled the rest. But he was not bored; see his Blog for more details and pictures.

The route is here,

And as you can see from the above picture, it is all downhill to our final destination, (although I think Peter would dispute that).

The white Dot on the horizon of the picture is the Jodrell Bank Telescope. That is just before the half way mark. For the ambitious cyclists amongst us, the route can be done in the reverse direction climbing to 1246 feet. The main push being in the last three miles.

It says on the route details that this ride should be achieved in 5 to 6 hours. What kept you??
Sounds a good ride and I shall add it to my list of future days out.

It was accomplished in six hours by Peter - yes on the bike, The 'off the bike' bits were almost as interesting.

I cannot recommend the Royal Hotel, (Parkgate) for apart from really hot central heating it has not changed since Nelson slept there, The original bread rolls are still there for the eating! It is a continental breakfast during the week and an English breakfast only at the weekend, since the main residents work at Elsmere Port there are no guests at weekend. Non the less I slept well and it was a fun experience.

I have a full set of maps of the complex part of the route if anyone requires them. The start at Teggs Nose is missing but as you fly down the hill……..

If one has no car escort or back up plan B then one has to detrain at Macclesfield Station and climb 1246 feet just for the privilege of descending 1246 feet (and then apparently climbing up again). Can't I pick up the trail south of Macc? I will even offer to get off a train at Congleton and ride from there to add a bit of distance!
