Delayed a little by the snow which had fallen earlier in the morning, I finally arrived with friend and north Nottinghamshire ranger, Maldwyn Johnson, at Stanton Lock where the Nutbrook Trail joins the Erewash Canal towpath. Tony, Keith and Jeff were already there and had started work. We cleared away rubbish from several litter hot-spots along the towpath and cut back a fair amount of intruding branches as we slowly sauntered southwards to Sandiacre. We broke for lunch around 1 o’clock and were joined by Stephen, a photographer from the Publicity and Communications Department of British Waterways. Apart from taking his own pics for BW, Stephen also took this one using my camera. From left to right: Jeff, Keith, Tony, me, Maldwyn. At the end of the afternoon, by which time we had reached the canal bridge just south of Pastures Lock, we had made an impressive impact on the towpath, having filled perhaps 20 bags with cans and other detritus. Well done and thanks, everyone!

Well done the Nutcrackers. Aluminium cans can be turned into cash.
