Action on Route 54

At rather short notice, the (professional) Rangers of Derbyshire Countryside Service came along today, 17th September, to cut the five and a quarter mile length of R54 verges between Mickleover and Eggington.
The result is one a metre wide strip of short grass on each side of the path, the tractor mounted flail having pruned the thousands of ash and sycamore saplings which have sprung up and grown at an alarming rate during the recent wet summer.
They also cut down a group of trees near to Old Station Close at the request of one of the house owners. This has left a 40foot long gap in the vegetation. See photograph.
